A Brief Discussion on the Gains and Losses of Factory Area Greening Maintenance in Recent Years

In modern life, the significance of greening the environment is self-evident. On a larger scale, it can play a role in protecting the ecological environment; on a smaller scale, it can provide people with a comfortable and healthy place.

However, due to various factors, the greening management in our factory has been fluctuating in recent years and has not reached the ideal state it should have. Here, I would like to share with you some of the gains and losses in the maintenance of greenery in recent years.

1. Failure points

1.1 Outsourcing management is out of control

With the hope that the factory area's greenery could be completely renewed, since 2021, the maintenance of our factory's greenery has shifted from internal maintenance to outsourcing. The investment in refilling the soil and fertilizing, laying the lawn, and having dedicated outsourced personnel for maintenance is considerable. However, after a series of operations, it was common to see large areas of withered yellow and mottled lawns, but the output was very little. In summary, on the one hand, the outsourcing company does not take it seriously, lacks a reasonable maintenance plan, dispatches some unprofessional and irresponsible personnel for maintenance, and changes personnel frequently. On the other hand, there is insufficient internal supervision. The outsourcing company was not managed with all efforts, and the cooperation was not immediately terminated to stop the losses when it was found to be out of control.

1.2 Insufficient internal skills

Seeing that the outsourcing model was not working, we switched back to internal maintenance. However, we lack professional maintenance knowledge and experience, and we haven't put our hearts into learning and improving. Maintenance work has turned into fire-fighting work, fixing here today and patching up there tomorrow. The effect is bound to be not good either.

2. Changes

Just as a person who doesn't love cooking can't cook well, a person who doesn't love greening surely can't maintain it well either. What should I do if I don't outsource and lack internal experience? For this reason, we have invited a master who has long maintained the greenery in the Xijiao Hotel area to come to our home regularly for inspection and guidance. He is a person who loves greening. Every time he comes over, he conducts a thorough inspection on site, has detailed communication and provides targeted guidance, such as the frequency and amount of water for watering green plants, what kind of insecticide to use for lawns, etc. He also proposes to keep pace with him in terms of maintenance plans, thereby enhancing the knowledge and skills of our internal staff.

3 Areas for improvement

3.1 Configuration Adjustment

Green plants have their unique habits. They can be classified into outdoor and indoor types, with differences between sun-loving and shade-tolerant ones, and vary by year and season. It's not that the green plants are bad, but that we bought them wrongly and placed them improperly. Therefore, we have reconfigured the green plants in different areas of the office building, Hui Zhi Pavilion and other places to make them in suitable environments.

3.2 Improve Standards

For instance, in the past, we always believed that the lower the lawn was trimmed, the better it would grow. However, this is not the case. The height requirements for trimming different types of lawns vary in different seasons and environments. For example, before the rainy season, the lawn should be trimmed to a height of 3 centimeters to prevent root rot caused by rain, and during the hot season, it should be trimmed to a height of 5 centimeters to prevent root burn caused by high temperatures. We are already documenting and implementing from zero to the whole in order to develop a complete and systematic standard in the future.

3.3 Make a Plan

A meticulous and reasonable maintenance plan is the key to the success of greenery maintenance. It can not only maintain the greenery effect for a long time but also save human and financial costs. For instance, our previous tree pruning plan was always scheduled for the end of November each year, which was not the best time. This led to the problem that the trees grew too fast and affected the lawn's absorption of sunlight. For this reason, we are also collecting experience and adjusting the maintenance plan in order to achieve the most ideal effect.

Through the above analysis and reflection, just like any other work, we have deeply realized that only by improving standards, formulating reasonable plans, and implementing them with people who love them can this matter be done well, keeping the factory area's greenery beautiful and vibrant for a long time and creating a better working environment for employees.
