Continuous Improvement – Signage Management
Release date:2026-04-09
In modern factories or companies, do you often encounter such situations: new colleagues are at a loss when facing a row of shelves, maintenance technicians cannot find specific tools, and visitors feel like entering a "maze" when stepping into production areas... Behind these problems lies an easily overlooked yet crucial management foundation — signage management.
1 Why should we do a good job in signage management? Because it serves as:
1.1 The first line of safety assurance
Clear safety warnings, area signs and pipeline flow direction signs form the first line of defense against accidents.
1.2 An accelerator for efficiency improvement
Accurate location signs, material signs and status signs can greatly reduce time spent on searching, confirming and waiting, making the flow of materials and personnel smoother.
1.3 Visualization for quality assurance
Distinguishing qualified products, unqualified products and products to be inspected through signs, as well as marking key parameters and operation points, can effectively prevent material mixing and misuse.
1.4 A reflection of standardization and professionalism
A unified and standardized signage system demonstrates the achievements of 5S management, and also reflects the rigorous and orderly work professionalism of the team.
2 How is signage management implemented in our company?
We have improved it through multi-dimensional integration of types, areas, departments and other aspects, with the main achievements as follows:
2.1 Marking Lines
We have divided marking lines into general affairs site, development site and mass production site, and formulated corresponding management regulations.
By setting up lines of different colors and specifications at reasonable positions, we enforce and standardize the flow and positioning of people, vehicles and materials, and intuitively convey instructions to employees such as "where to walk", "where to place" and "where to stop".
2.1.1 General Affairs Site

2.1.2 Development Site

2.1.3 Mass Production Site

2.2 Signage Boards
We have developed corresponding standard templates by differentiating dimensions such as materials, assets, and functions.
By installing signs of different colors and specifications at appropriate locations, we accurately convey instructions to employees such as "where it is", "what it is", and "what is not allowed".
2.2.1 Materials

2.2.2 Assets

2.2.3 Functions

2.3 Identification Boxes
We have formulated corresponding standard templates by differentiating dimensions such as usage scenarios, material characteristics, material requirements, and specifications.
By setting up boxes of different colors and sizes, we effectively convey instructions to employees such as "what to put" and "how much to put".
2.3.1 General Affairs Site

2.3.2 Development Site

2.3.3 Mass Production Site

3 Summary
Through the management of marking lines, signage boards and identification boxes, our workplace has not only become tidier and more standardized, but also effectively prevented safety accidents and avoided various forms of waste, making our work more efficient.
The above is an introduction to some achievements of the company's signage management. Small as the signs are, they convey a great deal of information and play a significant role. Systematic signage management can better support 5S management and directly reflect its effects, as the two complement each other.
In the future, we will follow the PDCA cycle, uphold the culture of continuous improvement, and further refine and systematize our signage management.
